Three Things You Must Do Before You Submit To Article Directories

To all writers and non-writers out there, now is the time to start digging up those creative writing skills. With modern communication technology comes the popularity of information-based marketing, which is one of the oldest and most effective techniques in getting targeted prospects to sites and converting them into buyers. This is

If you could successfully apply the "power of two" to your viral list building, you could potentially grow you list incredibly to in excess of one million subscribers in as little as 20 weeks, the power of two is literally that powerful when applied as a multiplier to your list!

1 million subscribers in as little as 20 weeks ... I guess you're now thinking that I might just be a touch mad. Well you'd be right! But, when you see my example of the "power of two" below, you'll see that by getting just one key ingredient of your viral list building right, your list will explode exponentially in a very short space of time!

To explode your own lists in just a few weeks, you've got to apply viral list building tactics that will stimulate the "power of two". In particular, you've got to provide really compelling reasons for each new subscriber you get to join your list to tell other people about you and your products. Crucially for the power of two work, you need your new subscribers to each tell just "two" other people, that's right just two".

Let's look at the example I promised above of the "power of two" in action:

We're going to assume that you already have a squeeze page published to capture your opt-ins.

Whilst surfing I stumble upon your squeeze page and decide to subscribe to your list. You've now got your first sign up and are therefore a list owner! Once subscribed, you take me to a special offer page, where you show me an incredible free gift that I can have if I tell my friends or my own list of subscribers about your site.

Your gift is just too good to turn down! I instantly tell my friends about your site and during the next week, two of them subscribe to your list. So now, after 2 weeks of list building you have grown your list to 3 subscribers ( know three subscribers in just two weeks doesn't seem too impressive, but it does get better I promise!).

My two friends (your new subscribers), now see the same offer of a free gift in return for finding you further subscribers. Finding your offer irresistible, they in turn tell some of their friends about your you and your products. As a result each of them send you two new subscribers during the following week. At the end of week three you therefore have a list of 7 subscribers!

This sequence of events repeats for the next seven weeks. Every new subscriber finds you just 2 more sign-ups each during the following week. By week 10 your list has now grown to a much more impressive 511 subscribers (getting better, but still not a life changing number).

So ten weeks to get 511 subscribers on to your list. By repeating the sequence for the next 10 weeks, by the end of week 20, your list will have grown to an incredible 1,048,575 subscribers ... that's right, you'll add over a million subscribers in the last 10 weeks! You can see the full worked example in my free ebook List Building Riches (you can get a copy from the link below).

The power of two will grow your list to over one million subscribers in just 20 weeks, if successfully applied. When you see this example, getting to a million subscribers doesn't sound so daunting, after all getting someone to tell just 2 people about your list doesn't isn't an unreasonable task.

The key ingredient is "the compelling reason" you give to your visitors to tell others about your products and pages. When a new subscriber signs up, you need to immediately offer them an incredible free gift they can't say no to.

Make sure your gift has real value and is targeted to a specific need you know they will have. Once you've created an insatiable desire for your gift, only let them have it once they have told their friends about you and your products!

Your list building process can be automated to harness the "power of two", I'll show you how in my free report below. Get it right and your list will flourish and multiply like you never imagined possible.

When you start building your lists, think massive, think Viral! Get yourself a great free gift that will give your subscribers a "hugely compelling reason" to give to market your list for you and watch the "power of two" take affect.

Making Money with Your Blog!

A place for finding the Nuts and Bolts for Making Money Online with Affiliate Marketing Business Opportunity!

Article marketing is the best way to increase sales, visitors, and traffic over to a website. It is very important to acknowledge the fact that when in the internet, information offers many opportunities available to you. Here are 3 keys to article marketing:

1. The most important thing in an article is the content. The information written in the article must answer the questions that your viewers will possibly ask concerning a product that they are interested in. Most often, increase in sales and site promotions are contributed to well-made articles. Also, releasing your article about your product at the right time is a sound strategy. Example is release your winter-used product before the coming of winter.

2. One article is never enough to draw a crowd of prospective customers. It is advisable than when going into article marketing to promote your product or your site, it is always a good choice to make more than one article regarding a certain topic. You could also put some variety in your different articles by using an assortment of approach. An example is if one of your articles is purely informative, you can make another article that is more on promoting and sales.

3. When your articles are done, spread them around. You can scout around the internet for sites where you can place links to your articles, especially sites with more traffic and visitors. Also, subscribing to a search engine is the best way to make your articles reach as many readers as possible, giving you enough elbow room in gaining enough viewers to be interested in your own product through your articles. In addition, you can subscribe to sites which offer free postings for your articles like blogs and social networking sites. This way, you are opening different doors for your own business.

Viral marketing is a methods of list building

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

Why Search Engines Rank Web Pages

Search engines strive to produce quality search results for their users. They want to be able to give you exactly what you are looking for at the best quality. One way that the search engines can tell if you have important information for its users is if your page has other pages linking to it. Various other factors come into play to ensure quality search results.

Number of Links

Although not the most important factor in determining a web page's importance for a specific keyword, it is a popular way of getting up in the rankings. Every newly created page may give away a "page rank point" of about 0.10 or 0.15 in importance. This could be from external or internal links.

Percentage of Links

More importantly than number of links to a web page, is the number of other links on the page that link to a web page. To determine the amount of distributed "page rank points" to a web page from a link, multiply the total amount of "page rank points" distributed by the percentage of links.

The Dampening Factor

The dampening factor is the number that is multiplied by the distributed "page rank points" to a specific web page. This is then added to the given "page rank point" of an estimated 0.10 or 0.15. This dampening factor is usually around 0.80 to 0.85 .

Logarithmic Page Ranking Points

A web page with page ranking of 1 will have 1 page rank point to divide up and distribute. However, a web page with a page ranking of 2 will have 10 times that! And a web page with a ranking of 3 will divide and distribute 100 "page rank points"! This is why it is better to get a link from popular and respected web pages. This is the most important factor in getting higher ranking pages that I have found.

The Equation

Now, it's time to put it all together. Below I will provide a sample equation to which you can plug in numbers to predict your web page's future page ranking. Though the true equations that search engines use are trade secrets and the PageRanks are rounded to integers, this equation should give you a fairly good idea of your web page's future page ranking.

PageRank(YourWebPage) =
(0.15) + (0.85)*{[(#ofYourLinks)*10^(TheirPageRank - 1)]/(Total#OfLinks) + (MorePageRankingPoints)}

Filters

There are several important filters that each link goes through before distributing "page ranking points". These filters that can hurt or ban your web site include, but are not limited to...

  • Duplicate Content
  • Irrelevant Content
  • Fast Link Building (100+ a month)
  • Links From Inappropriate or Banned Web Pages
  • Inbound Links Having a "nofollow" Attribute

Boosters

There are several things that can boost your rankings in the search engines, too. Some of these are debated, but won't hurt to encourage. Several boosters include...

  • KeyWord in the Title Tag and Meta Tags
  • KeyWord Towards Top of the Body of the Web Page and in Header Tags
  • High Traffic
  • Linking Keywords (anchor text)
  • Links From Government, Educational, and Well Known Web Sites

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

Most webmasters are looking for ways on how they can promote their websites without spending too much but still get the kind of traffic that will bring them huge profit. Article marketing is considered one of the most effective ways in promoting your products and driving organic traffic to your website without shelling out your precious dimes. As such, it is one of the most used marketing strategies by webmasters these days.

If you are currently using this technique but still want to improve the number you are getting in terms of profit and traffic, these 4 big steps will help you advance in article marketing:

1. Write more articles. The quantity of your articles plays a major role in the success of your article marketing campaign. Simply because, each submission grants you one quality back link to your website. Thus, the number of your articles dictates the number of your backlinks.

2. Post your articles to paid submission sites. If you are willing to spend money on this technique, you can do so by joining paid submission sites. These sites allow you to put HTML codes on the body of your articles. In addition, they post your articles quicker because they put them on high priority.

3. Get article submission software. Submitting your articles manually can take a lot of time. If you want to focus on writing articles, I strongly suggest that you get article submission software that will electronically distribute your articles to over 200 submission sites in just few clicks.

4. Permit other online users and webmasters to use your articles. Provided they post your website link on their site. This can lead to massive distribution of your articles that can result to even great exposure for you and your products.

Businesses can gain a competitive edge with Google and other significant search engines through relevant link building strategies. The search engines track links in ranking algorithms while crawling the Web. It is advantageous to grow the number of incoming links to your companys site alongside effective search engine optimization techniques.

There are numerous link building solutions.

1. Free and paid link directories
Link directories all provide either one-way or reciprocal links. Some are free, while others are paid only. Link directories are beneficial because Websites that place your link on their site without requesting a link back to their site are considered more valuable than reciprocal or link exchanges, in the eyes of major search engines. There are many reputable directory sites that are well trafficked by potential buyers for your product. You will find one-way and reciprocal link directories by typing into any search engine search box, keywords like submit a link, add a URL, or add link.

Some small business owners will only link to sites that link back to their site. This creates reciprocal links pages and triangular link patterns. Reciprocal links do not improve a Websites rankings, and should only be done to give value to your site visitors. This is not a savvy SEO tactic or a wise link building practice. Stay clear of SEO companies who use these link exchange strategies; they are not considered real SEOs by other professionals in the field.

2. Business Blogging
This is an ever growing Internet trend gaining in popularity with businesses corporate blogs. Blogging started as personal spaces for individuals to share their thoughts and the events around them, like an online diary. Corporate blogging is then defined as another way to publish business-related content and gain more visibility for your company on the Web. By offering information and sharing knowledge, a company can quickly establish itself as a leading industry expert, get information to customers quickly, increase sales, attract journalists seeking news releases, and attract new customers looking for relevant information.

3. Article Directory Submissions
Article directories are sites that house free reprint articles, allowing authors (people like you) to become known as experts in a field or industry. These sites help authors gain one-way link popularity because others seeking free articles to reprint on their newsletters, Websites, blogs and in print can find them here. Reprint articles can only be used elsewhere if providing a link back to the authors Website. You also receive free advertising and promotion.

4. Press releases
Submit your companys news releases to sites like PRWeb.com and PRNewswire.com to allow journalists and bloggers to find important information about your company, its products and services. These releases also build links to your site, and attract attention from prospective buyers.

5. MySpace.com
This is a tremendous opportunity for free publicity, through networking with prospects from around the world. Place your business profile, your company logo and business pictures, commercials and videos, write comments on other myspace.com profiles, receive email, instant message, and search for prospective clients. MySpace.com also has a business section that is cost effective and a great way to share your business with people searching for a certain product or service. This is another way to increase your link popularity.

6. Yahoo! Answers
This site is relatively new, and lets people in all industries become an expert in their fields. Answer questions in categories related to your expertise. Choose a subject from an extensive list of categories. Create a profile on Yahoo!, and you get to list up to 3 other one-way links. Yahoo! Geocities offers free a Website template and tools to build a simple Website. All these avenues add a host of easy ways to increase link popularity for your business.

7. One-Way Links on other Business Sites
Even with these link building strategies, having one-way links are considered much more valuable than link exchanges, also called reciprocal links. One way links from other related business sites or blogs with pertinent subject matter to the Website is an excellent way to drive traffic to your site. Although it is time consuming asking other sites to link to your site, these methods will assist in building stronger link popularity interest among the major search engines.

8. Business Networking Sites

These one-stop shops give professionals a lot of excellent exposure for free, by housing a database of business owners linked to each others online networks. Try something new! Create a profile through these sites, and you will reach other decision makers, stay in touch with others in your network, fill a key position, and keep contact information current.

Writing articles is definitely a very solid method of building a client base for your online business. There is no doubt about that. The writers I speak with who use free-reprint articles for the promotion of their businesses all proudly talk about the success articles have brought to them.

Articles will generate substantial traffic to those who write well. Even better, a considerable amount of the traffic will convert to sales.

The Internet is a rocky super highway. Thousands upon thousands of people have had their dreams shattered by the realities of marketing online.

Less than 5% of all online businesses will survive, so it is important to try to do the things that the 95% do not do. I will tell you one thing now --- more than 95% of all online marketers do not even attempt to use articles for the promotion of their businesses.

I have written a number of articles telling people about the promotional power of free-reprint articles. In fact, I have built my business on free-reprint articles, by helping others tap into the promotional powerhouse for themselves.

I have often said that one should investigate writing their own articles. I have even said that ideas of inspiration can be found in reading the works of others.

I wish to re-emphasize my original direction to find inspiration by reading the words of others. I said that reading around should only be used for inspiration. One will discover that as they read someone else's point of view, they will suddenly see an idea for an article on what may be a similar, but very different tact.

One should NEVER take the words of the original author and make them their own!!! Nearly every article you read will contain a copyright notice. The copyright notice is legally binding, supported by federal law.

If you are writing your own articles but borrowing a few sentences from someone else, YOU ARE STEALING! Copyright violation is a criminal offense that can find you in court and defending your bank account!

Words that I write and put into a free-reprint article do carry clearly stated "terms of reprint". Let us review those real quick:

This is a Free-Reprint article. The only requirements for publishing this article are:

You must leave the resource box unedited.

Minor editing to the article is permitted.

You may not use this article in UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email).

Email distribution of this article must be opt-in email only.

You must forward a copy of the ezine or newsletter that contains the article inside to the author at: mailto:bplatt@thephantomwriters.com

If you post this article on a website, you must set the links up as hyperlinks, and you must send us a copy of the URL where the article is posted.

Where in these "terms of reprint" do I give permission to borrow a few sentences or paragraphs from one of my articles to form the basis of your article with your name in the resource box?

I have read these "terms of reprint" again, and I still do not see the permission to use my words in this way! What am I missing here?

Let us writers be aware, there are those in the our Internet writers community who deliberately disregard our "terms of reprint" to take our words as their own.

Folks, if you are just getting started in using free-reprint articles to promote your business, please realize that it is completely unnecessary to steal the words of others! Inspiration resides in all of us, and we can find it in the most bizarre of places.

In my original article on this topic, which was written for Max Shifrin (one of my ghost writing clients by the way), this is what was said:

When in doubt, I always turn to the search engines to find inspiration. I might have a general subject in mind, but I might not know how I want to address it. That is until I am reading someone else's view of this subject, and Boom!, inspiration strikes.

A spark goes off in the old brain and I know exactly where I am going tonight. I know exactly how I will proceed with my new issue and article.

When I am done, you could look at the original source and never understand how I decided my slant on the article. That is because the source being read only serves to spark the inspiration from which the article will be written.

The actual article this segment came from was an article titled "Online Publishing: Where Do You Want to Go Today?"

Viral marketing is a methods of list building

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

Are you thinking of using article marketing as your advertising tool in promoting your business and marketing your products in the World Wide Web. Well, I'd say you have made a wise decision as it is the most efficient and cost-effective marketing tool in the internet today.

Here are the 4 effective secrets to jumpstart your article marketing:

1. Use striking titles. Your headlines are one of the elements that can either make or break your marketing efforts. These can be your greatest tool in getting online users to open and read your articles. Thus, it is very important that your titles are attention-grabbing, interesting, direct to the point, and communicate the readers' benefits.

2. Content. This is what will be the deciding factor of online users if they will read, pick up, and republish your articles. If your content is well-written, useful, interesting, fact-based, and direct to the point, you can be assured that your articles will be widely distributed.

3. Target market. You also need to make sure that your articles are targeted and relevant to your potential readers' needs. After all, they will be the one who will read your articles so you might as well make your content beneficial for them. If you can consistently do this, your readers will not only support your other articles but also, they will most likely to consider doing business with you.

4. Article submission sites. In writing your articles, you need to consider the rules and terms of service set forth by publishing sites to increase the chances of your articles being posted online. Some of their requirements are the following: your articles must run 300-500 words, they must be free from blatant advertisements and sales pitch, they must not have hyperlinks on the article body, they must not contain inappropriate content, etc.

If you are aiming at establishing a trusting business relationship with your potential clients, banner or text ads won't do the trick. The first step to win the trust of online users is to let them know that you are very good on what you do and that you have valuable information to impart that will potentially help them improve the quality of their lives. This can easily be done through article marketing. This is currently one of the most trusted marketing tools that require you to write and market well-written and content-rich articles to increase your inbound links and position yourself as an expert on your chosen niche.

Here are the 4 simple ways to accelerate your article marketing:

1. Topics. Write topics that are closely related to your products or services so you will be able to attract people who are most likely interested to do business with you. That means, if you are selling cosmetics, writing articles about laptops will not do your business any good.

2. Titles. To increase your clickthrough rate, make use of titles that can easily grab the attention of online users. Make them striking, intriguing, and interesting by incorporating emotion, logic, exaggeration, etc.

3. Target market. Keep your potential readers in mind when writing your content. Make sure that every information you include in your articles are targeted to their needs and wants. When you are able to satisfy your readers, you are increasing your chances of converting them to potential clients.

4. Content. Make your articles worth reading by filling them with valuable information that your readers will find useful and relevant to their lives. Offer solutions to their problems, answer their questions, or provide data that they can use to better understand the niche to which they belong to.

Making Money with Your Blog!

A place for finding the Nuts and Bolts for Making Money Online with Affiliate Marketing Business Opportunity!

What is article marketing? It is a question asked by people that have come across the term when seeking ways to promote their website and generate traffic. Many people write articles, or have them professionally written, without understanding their real purpose.

If they do not understand how article marketing can be used to derive massive amounts of traffic to targeted web pages on their site, how can they possibly be prepared to write an article intended to achieve that?

That raises a question. The term is quite common in the world of internet marketing yet it appears that there are many people who have no idea what it actually means. Probably that is due to the misuse of the word by many article companies, so the intention here is to put the matter straight.

For a start, there are far too many writers supplying article services who have no idea what they are doing, and have obviously no interest in the needs of the person for whom they are writing. Websites offering freelance writing services are full of them. It is full of people who can neither write grammatical and well spelled English, nor understand the needs of their customers.

There is a difference in writing style and vocabulary between writing to persuade a reader to click on a link offering further information, and actually providing that information in the article itself. A teasing article, containing excellent information but not quite enough, and that compels a reader to click for the rest, is more difficult to write than 1000 words about a topic in general. It takes planning, and it is easy for a professional writer to spot an article that has not been planned properly.

Article marketing is, in fact, the art of marketing through the use of articles, in the same way that internet marketing is the art of marketing through the use of the internet. There is no other possible definition. Therefore, what that defines is that those who write articles intended of the purpose of article marketing should not only understand what the term means, but should fully understand how articles can be used to market a product.

Perhaps that product is a tangible product, such as a flat screen TV, perhaps it is something less tangible such as a concept involved in search engine optimization, or perhaps it is a website. Whatever it is that is marketed, if it is done so by the means of articles, then that infers strongly that the articles involved must not only be read, but must be well enough written as to maintain the interest of the reader to the extent that they visit the writers website. Otherwise, the marketing technique will fail.

That is what article marketing is in terms of the concept. In practice, it involves the writing of articles that readers will find interesting enough to want to know more. Such article services should provide a compelling reason for reader to click for more information. They must want to click on the link provided by the writer to his or her website to find out more about the topic.

If the article is written badly, this will not happen. The reader will leave the website or directory that contains the article. Sometimes it will be better to have an article professionally written so that it grabs the attention of the reader, but how do you know who is professional enough to do that. It takes us back to the beginning of this article, whereby you do not know the standard of writing you will get if you hire someone online to write for you.

Although a well written article will attract the readers attention, you should also have a well designed bio or authors resource box to attract the click to your website. If the article is written well enough, and is easily read and understood, then you can use the resource box to direct readers to your website. But not only that: the power of article marketing is that you can send visitors to any page on your website that you want. Simply write an article relevant to that web page.

The way to make the best use of articles is to make sure that they are well written, whether you write them yourself or not, are relevant to the topic and interest anybody who is reading them. Then, you will attract visitors to the page on your resource box, and also might just persuade someone to copy your article for their own website.

What is article marketing able to do for you? If you make sure that your articles are written well enough it can provide you with traffic to your website and one way links back to the page of your choice from each article directory that accepts it. You should also make sure that any site that provides article services intended to promote your product or website has a good record in doing so, and understands fully the meaning of the term article marketing.

Why Optimize For Not Competitive Keywords

Why should you optimize your website for not so competitive keywords as a rookie webmaster? Most new webmasters start optimizing for very high competitive keywords, because they want to hit the jackpot.

Nevertheless they will not rank at all for any little competitive keyword, because there website is new and it probably it has no trust at all. I have some beginner and advanced webmaster seo tricks, which you can use to gain some traffic when launching your new website, and to start making some money of your website.

When you starting a new website or weblog, no one knows about it. So you can do a lot of work, with link exchange, submit your blog to directories and submit your rss feed to any website. But there are better ways to make a stable traffic source, like optimize your website for not competitive keywords. Most skilled webmasters tells everyone do not start with not competitive keywords, because the traffic they gain is very minimal, and gives no profit on the long run.

I did a lot of testing and my experience is that when you start with competitive keywords, it takes months before first visitors come trough google and will rank your website for some strange keyword phrases.

Because you have no trust rank or enough backlinks, and because nobody knows your website or blog, and they will not link to you page.

When you start with 3 phrase keywords with weird synonyms or something, you can rank easily on these 3 phrase keywords. Because no one wants to rank on them, they just start off with high competitive keywords. Do not forget to use not competitive keywords in your title tags because with this seo trick you can hit the number one spot easily.

So your great new website can rank on number one easily on these keyword phrases and start to gain some traffic. Don't expect much traffic, but a website without traffic in any months is NOT fun to make or update. That's why most people quit there website or blog within 3 months because they are not motivated to go further if no one reads there content.

Now you are on the number one spot (maybe 2,3 or 4) but you gain traffic, and a small amount of people know your website. Maybe some webmasters will start linking your website, and your website will growing with backlinks and trust.

After a few months you still gaining traffic and when your website or blog got enough trust of google, it will climb up the results on very competitive keywords. Then all your old content and articles are going to rank on synonyms of your synonyms :) When you used a synonym of a very highly competitive keyword and it starts ranking on the original keyword you will be a very happy webmaster, with still a lot of motivation.

Viral marketing is a methods of list building

There are multiple methods of list building, and if you are just getting started, until you have gained mastery over one or two methods, it is advisable to use multiple methods of list building strategies. You’ll see every step of the process, no matter how small, in exacting detail so

List building and monetizing your list is a whole science in itself. However, if you were to ask anyone what the most critical step is in the list building process, they are bound to say something like "building a strong relationship with your list".

Sure, it is important to have an optimized squeeze page. It is also important to have a plentiful supply of good quality traffic to your squeeze page as well. However, if the email messages you are sending are not helping you to develop a rapport with your subscribers, then you have a problem. It doesn't matter how good your website is, or, how much traffic you send, your email messages will simply be ignored after a while.

So, how do write your auto responder messages for maximum effect?

For the vast majority us, the reason we are building a list is to make a living off the Internet.

However, it is vitally important that you understand your subscribers are not going to buy from you in the LONG TERM unless they trust you and believe that you have their best interests at heart.

Therefore, to be successful, you must avoid blatant sales pitches at all costs. Offer high value content, free gifts and give them the benefit of your experience. Do not hold back on information that you feel may benefit your subscribers, as you will potentially be leaving money on the table.

Tell your subscribers that you genuinely want to help them and mean it by writing your emails with language that comes across to this effect. Encourage two-way communication and find out which info products you can develop for your subscribers. Do all of this and I promise that you will see the results in your bank account.

Making Money with Your Blog!

A place for finding the Nuts and Bolts for Making Money Online with Affiliate Marketing Business Opportunity!

Requesting Links

Ahoy everyone! Here is my secret out to build a quality link exchange program for your site. Lets get straight to the point shall we?

Remember: Not every link you request requires giving a link back. Sometimes it is cheaper and more efficient to just to go target higher quality links. Sometimes you can just request a link and get it by being personal and empathetic. Other times links may require payment ( I personally never buy links cause I personally feel it is not really necessary for my niche and I have enough unique and quality contents in my site's portfolio).

Be Personal

The best way to go about acquiring links is to be as personal about it as you can. Look around their website and try to find personal information. The more you find, the better you are.

When e-mailing them, try to submit it to the person who runs the site, not a general info submission. If you can state where your link should go on their site and how it would improve their user experience, you stand a good chance of getting a link.

Off-topic, somewhat personal statements showing you share similar interests may make you seem more human and more connected with them and will make it easier to get links. For instance, if you found out that I like peanut butter, somehow mentioning that or joking about it in the e-mail will make me far more likely to link to your site.

Proper Link Request Buy Line

Another good idea is to make the buy line of the e-mail appear as a suggestion. If I see the subject line of the e-mail as "SEO Book website suggestion," odds are that I am going to open it. Feedback is a fundamental part of any successful business so I have to open it.

I like using the word suggestion versus feedback. If you use feedback, they may feel like you are tricking them. If you use the word suggestion, they are highly inclined to open the e-mail. Remember, getting someone to open the e-mail is half of the battle.

E-mail to Use

When building links, you are more likely to have a higher close rate if you use an e-mail address with the same domain name with the site for which you are building links. Hotmail and Yahoo! mail type accounts probably do not close as well.

Some people also send their link requests as though they are cute females.

Scouting Out Potential Link Sources

A good way to find candidates for links is to use the Yahoo! link search. Do a search on Google to find your top few competitors. Go down the list and perform a backward link check on Yahoo! for each of them. See the sites that link to them and see if you can get links from those same sites.

Also, look at the categories those sites are in and use the Google directory to get the best sites from those categories to link to you. (Once again, to do a backwards link check of a competitor's website, go to Yahoo!'s search box and type "link:http://www.evilcompetitor.com.")

The Cost of Links

Some people are afraid of certain links because they think those links cost too much money. An expensive link can also be a good deal though.

If a link is expensive, or if the cost of obtaining it is a significant amount of effort, money, a long wait, or the approval from a webmaster who is a stickler for quality, it means those links are not going to be easy to get. People who create $5 sites hoping to double their money will not usually be acquiring links that take hundreds of dollars or many hours to get.

As people continue to abuse lower quality links the high-quality links will only count more.

Finding Niche Link Sources

You can do a search for " + directory," " + add URL," " + submit site"...any of them. Start thinking of ideas like that and finding sources of inbound links should be no problem. You can search across multiple search engines and even search for various file extensions.

If you have a resource about the ASP language, it may be a good idea to search for ASP file types.

If you have a golf site with a Flash game on it, try to get golf links, but also see if there are some game sites or Flash sites that might be willing to link to your site.

If you have a beautiful site design or an XHTML and CSS compliant design, try to list your site on sites about beautiful web design.

If you are a site designer, consider creating free open source site designs and promoting them on OSWD.org.

Let the Link Sources Come to You

If you know how to create and format truly remarkable information then you might be able to gain a top ranking by

  • Creating great content
  • Buying AdWords ads for related keywords
  • Letting bloggers and the media find your content via the AdWords ad
  • Watch them write about you, and see your rankings improve as you build links.

If you buy AdSense ads, you can run Google's position placement report to find where Google was syndicating your ad to. Webmasters who own these related pages might be willing to sell you links if you contact them.

Affiliate Program Links

Most affiliate programs redirect your links through third-party websites that prevent the link from parsing link popularity.

In addition, many other websites use query strings on the links. These typically will not parse PageRank to the destination page. A query string is something like "?affil=34565" at the end of the link. This identifies the affiliate for tracking purposes.

Even if affiliate programs do not provide static text links, they still help raise your brand awareness and build trust in the eyes of your prospective customers. A well-run affiliate program can also mean that some of your affiliates are crowding some of your competitors out of the search results.

Problems With SEO-Friendly Affiliate Programs (How They Can Hurt Affiliates, But Help Merchants)

If you build enough link popularity pointing to an affiliate page, it can outrank the regular version of the document. But if many good affiliates are promoting a product and those pages link back to the home page of the site they are promoting, then you can end up pushing a ton of PageRank to the home page of the merchant site. That PageRank can filter down to the regular (or non-affiliate) version of the page, which may eventually outrank all the affiliates.
